Our Capabilities

With corporate headquarters based in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and strategic joint venture manufacturing partners in Europe and Asia - UPPI has positioned itself to handle the demands placed on an industry leader.

UPPI-Mechanicsburg has been the home of corporation since 1992. The company's flagship facility contains 68,000 square feet of office, manufacturing, and warehouse space. The Mechanicsburg operation possesses high-speed in-line thermoformers, which are in production under the guidance of three shifts of operation.

Our West Coast manufacturing facility operates thermoforming equipment identical to our Mechanicsburg operation providing full tooling interchangeability.

Our foreign manufacturing facilities contain over 60 in-line thermoformers and an in-house tooling department. Production is under the expertise of skilled factory workers and a highly trained management team.

As you will notice throughout this site and in our literature, UPPI places the highest priority on our relationship with the environment. That is why at both our Mechanicsburg headquarters international locations we have implemented a closed loop recycling program designed to minimize our impact on our green partner.

When UPPI started as a seven-employee shop in 1983, the company's goal was to provide a quality product with excellent customer service. That holds true today, whether it's our Mechanicsburg headquarters or our Europe and Asia facilities. While the corporation has grown from one small plant to a multi-facility operation employing over 100 people, this founding belief has not changed. Our ability to maintain our position as an industry leader is the result of our conviction that each customer is the responsibility of every UPPI employee. Despite our size, your firm can take comfort in knowing that your packaging concerns will be a priority with UPPI. From our award winning team of designers to our young and exciting management team to our dedicated scores of employees, every job at Universal is treated as if it is the only job.

Environment

At Universal Protective Packaging, Inc. (UPPI), we feel we have a responsibility to the environment. Thus, with every packaging concept we create, we keep its environmental impact in mind. The result of this thinking has been the reduction of product waste and the development and implementation of a recycling program at our facilities that takes refuse and turns it into new raw material.

Of course, our static control alternative to the box, bag, and foam system is naturally a better environmental choice than the traditional three-part packaging method. Our system, which utilizes just one component versus the three used with bag, box, and foam packaging, reduces the amount of pieces needed to package a product. Therefore, there are fewer parts to discard and less material destined for the landfill. The fact that many of our packaging products can be used for more than one application also has a positive effect on the amount of waste being produced by our packaging goods.

As for the recycling program, which is utilized in our Mechanicsburg, Europe and Asian locations, production waste is collected, sorted, ground, and sold for use as materials for other products. Thus, very little of our waste ever makes it to a landfill. In fact, UPPI has even developed a closed-loop recycling process with our major material supplier that provides our customers with a cost saving post-industrial material while lowering the amount of waste destined to impact the environment.

UPPI has partnered with material suppliers to better develop waste stream recycling efforts. Additionally, UPPI has provided support for research of materials produced from renewable resources. Biodegradable and compost-able films are examples of UPPI's commitment to better the environment and improve our customers' global environmental concerns.

At UPPI, we realize that everything we do eventually impacts the environment. It is our goal to make sure we do everything we can to make that impact as soft as possible.
